Vialia returned to the Messenger of Triumph to personally perform the rites of passage for Gaerin. Her sense of loss over the Autarch's death was deeper than she had expected. He was not someone she had known well, but was a solid part of her world as a military commander. He, and his advice, were going to be sorely missed.
She refocussed her thoughts to the future once again, not wanting to walk the path of those emotions yet. The winding wraithbone halls of the cruiser brought her to the ship's intelligence center. Here quiet groups of Eldar in the blue and yellow mesh armor of naval guardians examined and evaluated reports gathered from sources ranging from her attack force on the Plucked Eye to those of Jaheris on the surface of Tiorl 7. Occasionally a Ranger or Pathfinder would bring a new piece of information to the Warlock that oversaw the running of the group.
She did not disturb the analysts in their work. Instead she crossed to the crystal matrix that would show her the distilled data so far. The updates told her that the other Eldar were making headway on the planet. The support of the other craftworlders had drawn off many of the Astartes forces here on the eye as well, but now they too moved to Tiorl 7. She understood the need to stop the Devourers, but she still believed the greater threat lay here on the Eye.
One bit of news piqued her interest. An Imperial Inquisitor had arrived on the planet. His was a name she recognized from other Farseers' briefings on the conflict on Medusa V. He had sabotaged a proposed alliance between Alaitoc and the Imperial forces to fight the hordes of chaos emerging from the Eye of Terror together. Inquisitor Kurlin, being of their Ordo Xenos, did all he could to derail the alliance including turning the forces he could against their Imperial comrades where he saw fit. The practice of some of these Inquisitors disgusted her. It was understandable that some alliances were temporary, but it was foolish to cut the throats of your own people in the middle of the conflict.
The thought stuck in Vialia's mind. There was an opportunity here. If Kurlin would eradicate those he felt were in league with any other race perhaps she could turn him against his own once again. If Kurlin believed she was concluding a truce with the forces here on the Eye, and if she withdrew her force from Tiorl 7, then perhaps she could manage to push him into hasty action. She looked up the names of two of the prominent Astartes forces on Tiorl 7.
She left the intelligence center to head for the bridge. She had a message to send.
Post Script: I posted the first part of this here in our "Private" forum so you all know what is going on. Your various leaders would be informed of the plan. So here it is -- I am going to do a story section in Side Stories of Vialia's communications to the Blood Dragons and 13th legion Space Marine chapters. I am hoping Lord Magellan (Inquisitor Kurlin) pick up on this and takes it to be a real attempt at alliance. If he is true to form it may fracture the imperials. To reinforce the "alliance angle" I will withdraw my forces from the surface. You all seem to be doing fine down there without me anyway. I'll continue to press things on the EYE myself. I need Jaheris as a new second in command anyway .
