Any campaign brings up lots of questions, and here is where we shall gather the responses to those questions.
Ask any questions (relevant to the campaign here), and the staff will answer (though there are things we won't tell you, like the hidden bits of the plot).
Q - How does this whole thing work?
A - This is a narrative campaign in the same vein as the Fall of Medusa V. As such, you report battles towards a location and we plug them into our formulas to get who did what where. But here's the glory of it all:
While we provided overall goals for the factions to pursue, it's up to you, the players, to determine how your faction goes about this. The story progresses how your faction decides to steer it - depending on how well you do, of course...
As such, narrative is very important, as is coming up with group strategy and conveying your intentions to your faction's rep so that it can be given criteria for success. Failure to write narrative hurts your group, but we don't expect you all to write Shakespeare (indeed, we hope you'll keep your reports to a reasonable size) - you only need a short bit on how things went and what you're up to.
At present, there is a limit of 2 reports a week. This number may be adjusted if the workload doesn't match up with our staff.
Q - Will there be any penalties incurred for changing battle locations?
A - When penalties for changing locations came up, it was also mentioned that limiting troop movement didn't make sense for some forces.
Eldar and Dark Eldar have the Webway, Terminators teleport, Imperial Guard and Orks are so numerous that they can be pretty much everywhere at once...
Since limiting some forces but not others seemed unfair, we threw out the idea altogether.
Q - How will battles between two campagin members be resolved?
A - Confirming the battle grants both sides' factions a points-bonus.
You don't have to play against other members of the campaign, though. We don't want to discourage playing, only give it a fluffy purpose. That's why each faction has a reason for infighting.
There was even a fair bit of debate on how to award a confirmed battle against another campaign member while not punishing those who don't have a registered opponent, and I think our solution turned out well.
Q - How will factions be organized?
A - You have your own area on the campaign board that the other factions can't see. It's up to you to organize or not, just as with alliances. There are plot-hooks for you to ally with some other factions, but it's not required.
Q - How will signup be done - will there be even-number teams, or will 100 Marine players and 2 Eldar players be possible? Will all factions be involved?
A - We will be using percentages in the comparative scores - thus the numbers of players within a group won't matter much. Any number of people may sign up for any faction.
Signup itself is as simple as joining this forum. You've probably noticed by now that the forum and the site are interwoven to a great degree. This allows us to cut redundancy and make the campaign as simple and straightforward as possible.
Q - How will you determine battle results between factions?
A - There's some numbers, and some formulas, and then a black box...
Things will work much like the Medusa V campaign, so there's not really going to be battle results so much as ongoing reports of who's coming out on top where.
Q - Will you set up scenario requirements and specific missions
A - That's not in the works for the current campaign. Perhaps next time.
Q - Will you keep track of losses (First Regiment 101st Cadians lost to Tyranids yesterday, it was a 1500 point game, thus the Cadians now have 1500 less points to allocate to battles)
A - This is something you should track for yourself - it punishes the players who do worse and rewards those who are already winning to impose such limitations.
Q - Why is < insert army > here?
A - If you can't guess, sign up and find out.
Each faction has their own reason to be here, and the group's information reflects that. On the other hand, there's no reason a non-Dark Eldar player would know about their inner politics, now is there?
Q - What is the projected timeframe for this campaign?
A - We are currently worrking on the specific timeframe of the campaign, but once it begins it will run for eight weeks.
If interest remains, we may revisit the system for another campaign at a later time. However, there are other groups interested in running their own events and we'd like to give them a fair shot at doing their own thing.
